  • Carter Manley scored his second goal for SAFC this season, and the first of his four league goals for SAFC to be scored at Toyota Field
  • Mitchell Taintor got his first assist of the season for SAFC, heading the ball across goal for Lambert’s game-winner in what has been a familiar set piece routine for SAFC in recent years
  • Five of the eight goals SAFC has scored this season have come in the 75th minute or later
  • SAFC continues to be one of the league’s higher-scoring teams, having notched two goals in each of its first four matches
  • The two teams combined for 17 corners and 27 shots as they went at each other, with goalline clearances, the crossbar and a potential penalty waived off preventing other goals
  • Hugo Mbongue made his first start for SAFC after coming off the bench to notch a goal and assist in his debut the week earlier

What SAFC said

Lambert on starting the second half strong: “We’ve noticed that the past games, we came out a little bit flat for the second halves, so we just figured that’s something that we needed to work on and we definitely raised the tempo. We knew that, for the first five minutes at least, we have to keep going, we have to come up with a lot of energy, and I think we did just that tonight.”

Manley on starting the season undefeated: “(It’s) really good to get off on the right foot and build some momentum and just keep pushing forward. It’s a lot to build off – not just the performances and the results but how we’re responding, our actions, our decision-making.”

Head coach Alen Marcina on the start to the season and Saturday’s performance: “I’m proud of the guys to go undefeated in the month of March, we’re one of a handful of teams to achieve that so a very good start to the season. Overall, tonight in particular…we have to continue to display our mentality and what we’re about as a team and stay the aggressors through the course of the game and continue with the intensity in our actions.”
